Beauty & The Beast

The original story of Beauty and the Beast was written by two French women. Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, a noblewoman’s daughter, wrote a lengthy version which was published in 1740. This was later trimmed down by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, a teacher, in 1756.
