And a Nightingale Sang is a play by British playwright C.P. Taylor (1977) and commissioned by Newcastle upon Tyne's Live Theatre Company. The play was made into a TV play in 1989 by Jack Rosenthal for Tyne Tees Television.

This is the story of the Stotts, an eccentric family waging their personal battles against the terrifying backdrop of Britain during WW2. Amidst the air raid sirens and fears of poison gas, Mam frets about church bombings.... Dad spouts communism while pounding the piano... Grandpa mourns his dead whippet... daughters Joyce and Helen grasp fervently at the joys, frustrations and heartbreaks of first love.

Kingswood Players put on a super show. I was privileged to attend the Kingswood Players' latest production (Post, May 23) which captured the drama of lives during the Second World War. I must congratulate them on a thoroughly enjoyable evening, which brought back memories to me and my wife. With all the problems which exist in present day life, it makes us realise how fortunate we were to have grown up in that era despite the war years. Well done Kingswood Players and we look forward to your next production. From the letters page of the Evening Post May, 2005
